So when she actually reads the eulogy for her (What else…..I hope she likes hers), maybe she realizes that he had become her life, so she dies. He tries to speak to Hazel, but Hazel, devastated by Augustus’s death and burial, refuses to listen, telling him that he is an alcoholic and she doesn’t want to hear what he has to say.

Hazel seems to love Augustus most when he is not acting – is not putting on a show of coolness or feeling the need to save someone, but reading to her or experiencing glee at a plane flying.
